What to watch

Categories

Across 47 confirmed start-ups since 28 September, Vertical AI Agents leads with 22 entries. Security & GRC has 9, AI Infrastructure 8 and Fintech Infrastructure 7. Security grew fastest this week, with 4 of the 15 entrants (Mave, Modelyo, Cygrid, Sunnies). Firms that control what agents can do now number five in four weeks: Rein, Opsin, Cygrid, Sunnies and Modelyo.

Regions

The US holds 5 of 15 confirmed entries, up from 3 of 13 last week. Israel has 2. Continental Europe fell from 4 to 2. Australia, Greater China and the Gulf (Ayan) came back. Southeast Asia dropped out. The UK and Africa are still gaps.

Funding concentration

Confirmed rounds total about $401m. Arda alone is about 58% of that. Arda, Different and Mach9 together are 78%, and the five US entrants about 80%. Without Arda, the week totals about $169m. Flapping Airplanes’ $1bn sits in Early Signals. If counted, it would be 2.5 times the confirmed total.

What it means for incumbents

ServiceNow put a personal work agent into its base licences at no extra cost. In the same week, four start-ups raised money to control what agents do. ServiceNow’s pitch is direct: “Arc is the first personal AI agent built for everyday work and governable by IT”.  Start-ups selling general work agents now compete with a free bundle. Control-layer start-ups have the best chance when they work across platforms, as Cygrid does across Google, Microsoft, GitHub, Slack and HubSpot. Different shows a second way to compete: replace a whole team’s tool stack, not one feature.

Excluded as not new business SaaS

  • AuxoAI ($20.7m) sells forward-deployed engineers, which makes it a services firm.
  • Pigment ($250m) is a late-stage vendor.
  • Blacksmith ($66m) raised a Series C.
  • Cognitive Credit’s $40m is a growth round.
  • Dataline plans a token sale.
  • Ghanem sells fractional property to consumers.
