Geography: Global.
Threat
Unchanged from previous weeks:
- Capital signal: round size compared to stage norms, plus backing from tier-1, strategic, or sovereign investors;
- Time-to-commercial-product: companies that are live and selling are prioritised over those still in stealth or research;
- Buyer clarity: does the product replace a specific, budgeted line item;
- The entrant will face a moat and regulatory obstacles. For companies based outside the US and Western Europe, it should be determined whether their advantage is confined to their domestic market or whether they actually represent a cross-border threat.
It was a busy week, with most funding directed toward one idea. The idea of giving AI agents context and keeping them under control. Both of the biggest funding rounds address this issue and are led by Israeli founders with a front office in the United States.
Confirmed entrants

Incumbent-launched
The SaaS products launched by the incumbent are given separate treatment because a platform which provides features native to it usually displaces a dedicated solution more quickly than a startup can.
| Entrant (+HQ) | Category | Stage & funding | What they do | Who they threaten | Threat | One-line reason |
| Box with OpenAI (Redwood City, USA) | Data & Analytics Infrastructure; AI Infrastructure & Orchestration | Integration launched 10 Sep | Lets people work with content held in Box from inside ChatGPT | Enterprise search and connector startups selling access to document stores | High | The content already sits in Box, so the integration lands with no new procurement |
| AEON (settlement layer for agent commerce) | Fintech Infrastructure; Martech | Agentic Checkout launched 8 Sep | Lets agents search, build carts and buy across Shopify and Amazon | Startups building agent checkout and payment rails for retailers | Med | It reaches the two storefronts every agent commerce startup needs, from day one |
Section 2: Early signals

What to watch
- The majority of new initiatives are still being directed towards AI Infrastructure & Orchestration, Security & GRC, and DevOps. This week, eight out of ten of the new accelerator pages provide tools for agents rather than focusing on a business function, just as happens in both of the major funding rounds. This pattern has persisted for three editions since the global format was launched on 7 September.
- Context and control is now the key subsidiary theme. Euno supplies the organisational knowledge required by the agents, while Cymphony gives control over what those agents are allowed to access. Both companies were founded in Israel and have a headquarters in the United States, and together they secured about 43% of the capital disclosed that week.
- The $123 million figure represents the amount raised by the 14 entrants who disclosed their funding; three other companies announced fundraising rounds without revealing the amounts, so the true total is higher. When you exclude the two largest companies, the median amount raised is about $5.5 million, consistent with last week’s pattern.
- As the number of regions increased the funding became more concentrated. The confirmed new entries were received from ten countries and six regions, no one country accounting for more than half. Europe provided five of the eighteen entries, while Japan, Australia, Chile and Morocco each had one.
- No company changed its status from the Early Signals of last week to Confirmed. Maritime, Ascii, OnePatch, Hopper, Asakana, 10pct., Creoir, and Oleyn all failed to issue any updates this week, so continue to monitor them next week rather than concluding they have stalled.
- This should be borne in mind by those currently in the field: the distribution layer is closing in more quickly than the product layer. When Box incorporated enterprise content into ChatGPT, it was aiming at the same market segment that enterprise search start-ups had been targeting. AEON had taken a similar approach with regard to agent checkout by integrating directly with both Shopify and Amazon. In the case of a product that lies between a model and a system of record, anticipate that the system of record will launch its own connector within two quarters. To compete, provide more comprehensive governance and stronger audit evidence.
