PictureMate is a Chrome extension. It unblocks and searches for hidden pictures of anyone on Facebook. Great for investigations. Remember it’s not the person in the picture. It’s their contacts, where they are, what they are doing and when.

4. TinEye 

TinEye is an image search and recognition search engine. 

Its key feature is known as Compare Feature. It lets you quickly switch back and forth between your search and result image. By highlighting any differences between the two pictures. See how images have been cropped, resized, skewed or manipulated. You can also search for detailed information on an image or perform a reverse image search.

5. Yandex Images

Yandex is the Russian equivalent to Google. It’s excellent for reverse image searching. Yandex other sizes of the same image, visually similar image. Yandex search engine is ideal for face matching and location identification. Use Yandex if you picture of unknown mountain location to reveal possible places.

6. SunCalc

SunCalc is a very creative tool which chronolocates a video or image. Allowing you can use the position of shadows, and the sun can also be useful for geolocation. SunCals allows you to analyse the position of shadows and the sun at any given time and date, at any location. Click on the sun icon at the top of the page to reveal the sun’s position at a particular time. Within the image or video, you can calculate an object’s height. Logos identifies logos in videos. They have an extensive database of TV channels and independent media organisations. Also groups like militant organisations . They assist you by automatically detecting the logos in an image or video. Then provide you with:

  • Video provenance
  • Reveals the potential for bias or truth manipulation

FotoForensics provides access to cutting-edge tools for digital photo forensics. It’s a free service that provides an introduction to photo forensics. Using algorithms it tell you if a picture is real or computer-generated. If it has been changed and how it was modified.

9. EXIFdata

EXIFdata is an online application that lets you take a more in-depth look at images. EXIF stands for Exchangeable Image File. The standard format for storing interchange information within digital photography image files. 

EXIF is where image information like: 

  • Shutter speed
  • Exposure compensation
  • F-number
  • Metering system
  • ISO number
  • White balance
  • Auxiliary lenses used

Most mages even may give GPS information date, time of the image to help locate where and when the photo was taken.

Let’s Enhance uses Image Super-Resolution technology based on Deep Convolutional Neural Networks. Their network works on a large dataset of images to learn familiar physical objects. Including bricks of walls, hair and skin. The system then recognises those features on the images. And then adds extra details, based on its general knowledge of the world.
